Bilingual students and Special Education: Support ineducational practice

The purpose of the program ” Bilingual students and Special Education: Support in educational practice” is to equip educators with the knowledge and skills needed for the accurate assessment and differentiation of the needs of bilingual students, whether or not they have developmental disorders, such as Developmental Language Disorder, Developmental Dyslexia, Autism Spectrum Disorders, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The program’s goals focus on providing knowledge, specialized tools, and methods that enable participants to accurately assess bilingual students and adjust their teaching to meet their specific learning needs. A key aspect of the program is identifying whether the difficulties bilingual students face stem from limited exposure to the societal language or from a developmental disorder affecting both their native and second languages. On a personal level, the program enhances participants’ ability to recognize and manage the diverse learning profiles of bilingual students. On a social and economic level, this training contributes to reducing educational inequalities, promoting equal access and support for all students to prevent dropout among this group. On a cultural level, the program fosters understanding and respect for linguistic and cultural diversity. On a technological level, it introduces modern assessment tools and teaching strategies that support personalized learning, as well as new technologies for assessment and teaching. Professionally, participants will develop skills to assess the learning difficulties of bilingual students, distinguishing between difficulties arising from limited language exposure and developmental disorders. They will gain tools for effectively supporting these students, adapting their teaching to their specific needs, and offering meaningful education. Finally, the program promotes active citizenship and the advancement of human and democratic values through the creation of a supportive and inclusive educational environment.
